10 Of The World's Hottest Rides Of The Past 100 Years

Aston Martin DB5

The Aston Martin DB5 is a luxury grand tourer that was manufactured by Aston Martin and designed by the Italian coachbuilder, Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera.

Regarded by many as the most beautiful Aston Martin ever produced, the DB5 shares many similar traits to the DB4, but however, DB5’s most substantial change occurred under its hood. That’s right we are talking about the “Engine.”

The high-performance DB5 Vantage was introduced featuring three Weber twin-choke 45DCOE side-draft carburettors and revised camshaft profiles, delivering greater top-end performance at the expense of overall flexibility. This 4 litre engine produced 315 hp and only 65 DB5 Vantage coupes were built.

Mercedes-Benz 300SL

The Mercedes-Benz 300SL was the first iteration of the SL-Class grand tourer convertibles and fastest production car of its day.

Built by Daimler-Benz AG, this fuel-injected production model was introduced in 1954 as a two-seat sports car with butterfly doors and later offered as an open roadster. In terms of the engine, the 300SL came with a 3.0 litre straight-6 as the regular four-door 300 tourer. Fitted with a Bosch mechanical Gasoline direct injection system, the mean machine had almost double the power of the original and could top speed of up to 260 km/h depending on gear ratio and drag.
