10. Name of book: Accidental Empires
Author: Robert X. Cringely
Year: 1996
What it’s about: The sub-line of the book says it all-“How the Boys of Silicon Make Their Millions, Battle Foreign Competition, and Still can’t Get a Date”
What’s great about it: Cringely humorously retells the tale of today’s tech titans from the days when they were nothing but nerds out of school, and draws a connection between creativity and lunacy. What’s surprising in his insight is that he was relatively early in seeing that empires can be built even by mistake, but can only be maintained by those with a streak of brilliance. A true must-read!
