Manu Bhaker Won her Second Gold at ISSF World Cup and India leads the Medal Tally

India’s new young shooting sensation, Manu Bhaker registered her second successive gold medal in a mixed team event at the ISSF World Cup in Guadalajara, Mexico. A day before, she became India’s youngest and world’s third’s youngest shooter to claim a World Cup gold and she was quick to add one more to her tally.

The 16 year old shooter, Manu Bhaker won her second gold medal by teaming up with Om Prakash Mitharval in the 10m air pistol, a day after her first gold medal. In the final, she defeated the favourite Alejandra Zavala Vazquez with a difference of 0.4 where she scored 237.5 points. Alejandra has been the crowd favourite because she has won several World Cup medals even before Manu was born.

Commenting on the excitement, Manu said, “This medal will motivate me to reach greater heights in the future, and I dedicate this to my family and coaches who have been supportive throughout”.

Along with this achievement, Manu also broke the record of the rifle shooter Gagan Narang and the pistol shooter Rahi Sarnobat who held the previous record for the youngest World Cup medallists at age 23. India also won bronze medal in the 10m air rifle mixed event, where Mehuli Ghosh and Deepak Kumar scored 435.1 points.

Speaking to the media, Manu’s father said, “She got her first pistol only after days of her trying the sport for the first time. She is dedicated and I knew if she is asking me to invest in something, she will not take the sport lightly."
