A Candid Talk with India's Silver Girl

BENGALURU: PV Sindhu, the silver girl of India, the one who brought smiles to millions of people’s faces, the glory girl! The Wonder Girl! It was a big milestone for her as she won a medal for her country. She has found some new stardom in her country, so much so that Pizza Hut even declared that whoever has his/her title as Sindhu can enjoy free pizza on  the day she earned a medal for India. Times Of India recently took a candid interview of the Silver girl. We bring to you some of her views in her own words.

On returning to India with a silver medal

The wonder girl was all happy with her reception. “After landing in Hyderabad, the state governments of Andhra Pradesh and Telengana and the people gave me a grand welcome” she said. Sindhu hadnt expected so much crowd; showering so much love and affection, holding banners with her name and standing on the roads. She acknowledges the welcome she got and feels proud about that particular moment.

On thought process during the “Final Day”

“In the final I was confident and even Gopi sir believed that I could do it. The match started off well. Even though I was trailing, I came back and won the first game,” recalled Sindhu. Her recent records against Carolina were also good, and that made her believe even more of a possibility of winning the Gold. “In the third game, I was trailing but then I made it 10-all, and after that I just gave away 3-4 points in a row,” commented Sindhu. The silver girl believes that was the instant where she lost the match as Carolina maintained that lead and finished the game off.

On Saina Nehwal

Sindhu looked disappointed on asking about Saina’s early exit. “We thought she would play well and come on the top of the league. But she lost in the league. Winning and losing is part of life. There are ups and down. When she lost, we all felt very bad,” added Sindhu.

Sindhu had all hopes in her mind that Saina would perform well for India in the Olympics. Not sure about why she left Gopi, Sindhu mentioned that its entirely Saina’s choice.

On Rajinikanth saying that he’s a fan

It made Sindhu very happy to hear that the blockbuster actor is also her fan. “When he said that... I really felt so happy and it made my day because he telling me that he was my fan, I am very thankful to him,” said Sindhu.

Sindhu also recalled Amitabh Bachchan’s tweet to congratulate her and believes that she has achieved that feet because of his and other countrymen’s blessings.
