YouTube Pays Rs 21,000 Crore to Indian Creators: CEO Neal Mohan
YouTube CEO Neal Mohan made the declaration that the site has paid Indian creators, artists, and media companies more than Rs 21,000 crore over the last three years. Attending the World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit (WAVES) in Mumbai, Mohan also shared the intent of YouTube to invest more than Rs 850 crore in India in the next two years in order to continue fueling the growth of the creator economy.
Describing India as a 'creator nation', Mohan emphasized the phenomenal expansion of the Indian digital content ecosystem. Just in the last year alone, over 100 million Indian channels uploaded on YouTube, with over 15,000 channels crossing one million subscribers up from 11,000 a few months ago.
"These aren't figures. They're actual opportunities thousands of careers and businesses created by creators from all over the nation", Mohan highlighted in his talk on 'Powering the Creator Economy in India'.
He also went on to explain that India's original content remains a global fan favourite, attracting 45 billion watch hours last year from foreign audiences. Mohan reiterated that YouTube remains invested in Indian creators and allows them to build faithful bases of supporters as well as solid businesses online.
Through this strategic investment, YouTube is looking to enable a more vibrant and diverse ecosystem for Indian digital creators, further solidifying its position in creating the future of India's media and entertainment space.
