Why does the BJP tweet more than the Congress?

Bangalore: It all began with Shashi Tharoor who made headlines with his controversial tweets and the Indian political class realized the potential of this social media, its positives and negatives, and the microblogging site became a forum to express their views ever since. There are many prominent political personalities on Twitter, both from Indian National Congress and the Bhartiya Janata Party apart from the other political parties who do actively tweet and engage in political discussions. Sushma Swaraj has been busy tweeting ever since the police crackdown on Baba Ramdev's satyagraha at the Ramlila Maidan and her controversial patriotic dance at Rajghat. Sushma Swaraj recorded more than 20 tweets on June seventh after the whole drama of Baba Ramdev's eviction from Delhi and her Rajghat dance. Sushma shot back at the congress over its criticism with her tweet which said, "My question is: Is singing a song in praise of your motherland an insult to Mahatama Gandhi ?". She also tweeted, "If we sing and dance to the song 'Mera rang de basanti chola' on the samadhi of Shahid Bhagat Singh, will it be an insult to the martyr? She remains to be a constant tweeter who tries to reach out to the people keeping in mind the possibilities of BJP coming to power in the next general elections and her position in the party. She has 82,519 followers and 966 tweets to her account. The Gujarat CM Narendra Modi has been very active on twitter who tries to share his day-to-day political and social activities with the public through the microblogging website. On 5th June, he tweeted, "Congress will have to answer 120 crore people of India about its inhuman act of brutality on innocent protesters," referring to the police intervention during Baba Ramdev's fast in Delhi. He also criticized the U.S. for acquitting Tahawwur Rana in the Mumbai attack and his tweet read, "U.S. declaring Tahawwur Rana innocent in Mumbai attack has disgraced the sovereignty of India & it is a 'major foreign policy setback'." However, it should be noted that the most active Indian politician on Twitter, Shashi Tharoor has selectively ignored the saga of Baba Ramdev, although he seems to be covering every other issue in the world. Although he had tweeted in support of Anna Hazare for the Jan Lakpal Bill, the former state external affairs minister neither dared to support nor criticize Baba Ramdev's campaign. While Abhishek Manu Singhvi has not tweeted since February 18, 2011, Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari does not have a twitter account. There seems to be a deliberate attempt from the congress party to avoid taking up the issue online with the exception being Digvijay Singh, the most outspoken leader of the Congress party who continues to be very critical about the anti-corruption movement by Baba Ramdev and Anna Hazare. However, the BJP tries to explore the opportunity to regain its lost glory with aggressive antigovernment activism both on the field and on the web.
