Viagra, LSD And 8 Other Accidental Inventions

Anesthesia

Purpose:
Medical treatments would have been a proper pain without this accidental discovery. Ether and Nitrous Oxide was most used for recreational purpose and entertainment. It was the ‘laughing gas’ that made people scream their heart out laughing. Once Hoarce Wells attended such a party and saw a man who had injured his leg and was bleeding, he examined this man and to his surprise the man told him that he did not feel any pain.

Invention:
Crawford Long, William Morton, Charles Jackson and Horace Wells are known to be the fathers of Anesthesia. They did a careful study and understood the influence of the gas and found it to have a ‘pain-killing’ element in it. Wells first used this as an anesthetic to remove his tooth and found it painless and successful. He and his friends used this for all their dental practices and Crawford started using it for small surgeries. Surgeries and operations today are made painless with this drug and women must be really thankful to these guys.
