U.S. Stands With India as Partner and Friend: Clinton


Washington: Calling India "a beacon for the world of the power of non-violence and the promise of democracy", the United States Monday assured India that it stands side by side with it in "a strategic, indispensable partnership".

"As you celebrate this special day with family, friends and loved ones, know that the United States stands with you as a partner and friend," Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said in a message of best wishes on the eve of India's Independence Day.

"From the freedom movement led by Mahatma Gandhi to independence in 1947 through today, India continues to stand as a beacon for the world of the power of non-violence and the promise of democracy," she said greeting India on behalf of President Barack Obama and the American people.

"The United States stands side by side with India in a strategic, indispensable partnership built on our shared democratic values and fundamental belief in the entrepreneurial spirit," Clinton assured.

The Indian and U.S. governments and the people of the two countries, she said "will continue to work together to tackle the challenges and seize the opportunities of the 21st century, laying the foundation for continued peace and prosperity in Asia and around the world."
