Understanding the Metaverse: A Bottom to Top Approach

Understanding the Metaverse: A Bottom to Top Approach

In the real world, we can have our universe and other universes parallel or not to ours, which is referred to as a multiverse. In virtual reality, we can think of different universes, each created by a different app, game, or simulation, and the whole thing is referred to as a metaverse. The parent social media behemoth  Facebook has rebranded as  Meta and updated its logo to an infinity loop that looks like the letter M on the 28th of October.  Mark Zuckerberg, the co-founder of Facebook, announced its new name, Meta, at the company's most recent annual connect event. The company's logo has been altered into a looping letter M, according to the CEO. The logo M, which is available in both 2D and 3D versions, is intended to be effective across all screens and apps of varying sizes, from phone screens to virtual reality worlds. Meta represents its expansion into the Metaverse – a digital world where people can live parallel lives to their real-world existence. Both the name, Facebook and Meta, which was designed in the company's familiar 2019 the typeface will be cast off across all of the company's apps, including Whatsapp, Instagram, and Messenger and will also be used for Oculus, the company's virtual reality brand acquired in 2014.

Why Facebook Renamed to Meta?’’

The elucidating quality of the Metaverse will be a sense of presence," Mark Zuckerberg predicted. As the rebranding of Facebook to Meta is announced for the first time in 17 years, Mark Zuckerberg has a new job title.".On Thursday, he officially became the CEO and chairman of Meta, the new parent company name for Facebook. According to the letter published on the brand's blog by Zuckerberg, the company chose Meta because it connotes possibility and a future with "more to build." In Greek, the word means "beyond. The name was chosen to reflect the vital product that Zuckerberg hopes will represent Facebook – now Meta –: the Metaverse, the name for a shared online 3D virtual space that many companies are interested in creating as a sort of future version of the Internet.

"We chose 'Meta' because it can mean 'beyond,'" the statement explained. "A sense of presence – as if you are right there with another person or in another place – will be the defining quality of the metaverse."

"The metaverse includes both social experiences and future technology," Mark Zuckerberg continued. However, it is in the future, and not right now. The company's Metaverse appears similar to The Sims or another immersive world: the 2003 video game Second Life.

Current Implementations

Vr Reality

VideoGames -: Meta owns applications like WhatsApp and Instagram; alongside, they have implemented the technology in video games and virtual reality. Several metaverse technology components have already been developed within modern internet-enabled video games. Second Life, a 2003 video game, is often referred to as the first Metaverse because it incorporated many aspects of social media into a persistent virtual world. Many massively multiplayer online games include social functions as a standard feature. Clive Thompson, a technology journalist, has argued that Minecraft's emergent, social-based gameplay represents an advanced Metaverse implementation. Other claims of metaverse development have been made for the games Active Worlds; in addition to Roblox,

Virtual Reality -: Because of the benefits of establishing immersion in virtual environments, metaverse development has frequently focused on improving virtual reality technologies. Facebook Horizon, a social VR world, was launched in 2019 by the social network company Facebook.  In 2021, Facebook will be renamed "Meta Platforms." Its chairman, Mark Zuckerberg[23], has stated its intention to create a metaverse ecosystem. Much of the underlying virtual reality technology that Meta Platforms promoted is still in the works. Microsoft acquired the virtual reality company AltspaceVR in 2017 and intends to integrate metaverse features into Microsoft Teams.

A Bright Future Made by all of us and its Advantages

The Metaverse will be a collaborative effort that will go beyond the scope of a single company, created by people from all over the world and open to the public. It's essentially a world of infinite, interconnected virtual communities where people can meet, work, and play using virtual reality headsets, augmented reality glasses, cryptocurrencies, smartphone apps, and other devices.

One of the most talked-about advantages of the Metaverse is with the help of a headset, customers will be able to experience products at a brick and mortar store without leaving their room, which is one of the most widely discussed benefits of the Metaverse. Now Every retail vendor will be able to interact with audiences from all over the world and present their products without limitations. This experience gives users firsthand knowledge of how the products feel and how they will add value to their lives.

After the integration of Metaverse technology, modern medical equipment powered by virtual reality has evolved. Because of the increased visibility in the biological process, doctors can detect and diagnose health problems much earlier.

Despite the pandemic, the gaming industry has not slowed down. People began to spend their time gaming to avoid loneliness, and this is where these people first encountered the Metaverse universe. Both VR and AR assist gamers in blurring the line between the real and virtual worlds. With VR sports training, competition, and post-game locker rooms, Meta Verse has contributed to the enormous popularity of eSports.

The tourist industry has boomed in the aftermath of the pandemic. Furthermore, some people cannot travel due to medical reasons, and Metaverse provides them with valuable and enticing experiences of visiting their favorite places. People have begun to visit places worldwide using VR headsets nowadays; since the lockdown is still affecting some areas, people prefer to visit places using Metaverse technology first, rather than paying for expensive air and hotel packages.

Not to Forget the Drawbacks

Everything, like a coin, has two sides, a positive and a negative one. The ugly side of the Metaverse is the separation that will occur between people and reality. It is the viewpoint in which technology completely captures human attention, distracting us from the real world. We will eventually become addicted to the Metaverse, and our children will grow up with it. In the proleptical days of personal computing and the Internet, people envisioned digital shopping malls and libraries; rather than physically going to a store or a library, and now one could use a computer to look up information or purchase items. As we increase the use of virtual reality and augmented reality technology, we blur the line between cyber and natural spaces.

Again, with the rise of information and technology usage, Cyber-bullying has become a common factor in online abuse. Let us Consider online harassers yelling at you all day, wherever you go, regardless of whether your phone or computer is turned on or off. Consider how a company like Meta could choose to deny you access to a virtual reality space in the same way that Facebook can deny you access to its website and app. The law simply isn't ready to deal with these issues, and technology companies haven't proven themselves to be trustworthy guardians of a new virtual reality.

Humans Manoeuvre towards this Future

The Metaverse is unquestionably the next big thing, the natural progression of the Internet, and Facebook has begun the transition to the Metaverse. It is happening, but we are still in the early stages as computers were in the 1980s, the Internet in the 1990s, smartphones after 2000, and cryptocurrencies in the last decade.

How it affects our lives is heavily dependent on how we use it, just like the other innovations. Some will use the Metaverse for good, while others will use it for evil.
