Two women top in Civil Service Examination


Bangalore: India, the country, where women are still considered as the second sex, two women have proved it wrong and have made a mark to show that women are equal as that of their male counterpart and in some cases, even can give tough completion to them. In the Civil Services Examination of 2010, two girls have secured first and the second position. Well, if does not stop at them, there is more women to come in the top list. The merit list includes five women candidate in the top 25. From the top 25 candidate, 15 candidates belong to the engineering discipline; five belong to commerce, management, humanities, science and social sciences and five to medical sciences. S. Divyadarshini, from Chennai, has topped the Civil Services Examination 2010, and the second position has gone to Sweta Mohanty, from Hyderabad, has got the second position. Divyadarshini has done her B.A. B.L. (Hons.) from Dr Ambedkar Law University, Chennai. This was her second attempt for the examination. In her first attempt she could qualify the preliminary. But after that for one year, she has only concentrated for the exam, and here we can see the result. In an interview, with Economic Times, she said that when she was in college, she did not like many things about the system of governance. And with the idea of changing the system she got into the system. Sweta Mohanty, who did her B Tech in computer science from Gokaraju Rangaraju Institute of Engineering and Technology (GRIET), Hyderabad, has come second. There were 547,698 candidates who appeared for the preliminary exam held in May 2010; 920 candidates got selected, in which 717 were men and 203 were women made the grade. Now, they will be inducted in the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and Indian Police Service (IPS) along with other Central services. The result of the UPSC exam is a real inspiration to all women in India. These women have not only proved their talent but also they have set a milestone for the aspiring women candidates for future.
