This sector, which includes CNC machining services for example, has changed drastically over the years, which thus will not be any different next year. Remote work

Manufacturers, who for example use CNC machining, already faced issues when it comes to finding qualified workers. Due to the global pandemic this problem has only been accelerated, as more and more workers are encouraged to work from home to stop the spreading of the coronavirus. There is a high chance that the emphasis on remote work will continue in 2021. This will influence the day-to-day operations of a manufacturing firm. Managers and bosses should be able to supervise plant workers in the correct way without being physically present at the company due to COVID-19. There is a continued development of workplace automation, which may impact the push to work from home.

The Internet of Things

The Internet of Things refers to the interconnection of all the devices we use every day. It is also known as IoT. Our phones and laptops are Wi-Fi compatible and connected, but even our lights and toasters can have the same functionality. It is no different for manufacturing. More and more parts of a manufacturing plant are being brought online or have this potential. Obviously, this trend has been accelerated due to the coronavirus. Remote machining is still a holy grail for this industry. It is not yet fully possible, but there is a chance this is going to change soon.

Electrification

Manufacturing companies are becoming more environmentally aware and socially conscious by the day. On top of that, the cost of renewable energy has decreased. This has led to a big growth in the electrification of multiple parts of industrial production. Plants are moving away from oil and gas, instead the factories are using electric-powered machinery. This even counts for transportation, which is a traditionally fuel-reliant sector. It is however quickly adapting to the electrified variant. Even though this trend and change has already started, it surely is not going to end in 2021.
