Techi To Organic Farming: New Trend for youths
BENAGLURU: Agriculture, which is considered to be the back bone of the Indian economy, is now the profession that is losing its prominence among the youth. Since the rapid urbanization and the rise of information and technology jobs have been attracting higher number of graduates from the rural parts. But this story from the Mandy, Karnataka will surprise you to the core, as it is contradictory of the trend, as reported by the Indiatimes.
The Karnataka state is affected by drought this year, the crops failed to produce the expected yield; hence around 183 farmers have committed suicide this year. On the other hand, Madhuchandan SC, who was an IT profession in U.S., also headed an IT based company in San Jose, decided to quit his IT career and returned to India with his family, in order to begin new life as an organic farmer.
Madhuchandan approached his wife Archana and their daughter with the proposal, for which they also assented, hence the family left to India with a new resolution. Subsequently, he learned that the conditions were not as easy as had pictured. Therefore he researched on ground level problems and came out with an idea of setting up an integrated organic zone on the Bangalore-Mysore highway that sells only organic products. The highway is mostly jam packed on weekend; hence the business picked up soon and has accounted 12 lakh turnovers till date.
Madhuchandan said "If you call jaggery as just that, it won't sell. We worked on promoting joni bella, a liquid form of jaggery. This is a stage just before the jaggery solidifies. We figured out how to preserve it in this form and sell it as a new product. It has high calcium and iron content, tastes better than honey and can be used in any dish."
