Tata Electronics Signs Pact with Tokyo Electron to Acquire Semiconductor Equipment
Tata Electronics has entered into a strategic agreement with Tokyo Electron (TEL), a prominent global supplier of semiconductor equipment, to procure technology and services for its upcoming semiconductor manufacturing facilities in India. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aims to support Tata’s semiconductor ventures in Dholera, Gujarat, and Jagiroad, Assam.
Under the agreement, TEL will provide advanced semiconductor equipment and collaborate with Tata Electronics to enhance workforce training, drive research and development, and foster continuous improvement in semiconductor production. Tata is currently investing Rs 91,000 crore in establishing India's first semiconductor fabrication plant in Dholera, alongside an additional Rs 27,000 crore for an assembly and testing unit in Jagiroad.
These facilities are set to produce semiconductor chips used in various applications, including automotive, mobile devices, and artificial intelligence (AI), serving both domestic and global markets. The partnership marks a significant step toward India's ambition to become a key player in the global semiconductor industry.
"Tata Electronics and TEL will work together to accelerate the establishment of critical semiconductor infrastructure, which will play a pivotal role in transforming India's tech landscape", said Tata Electronics Managing Director and CEO Randhir Thakur. TEL will also explore opportunities to leverage India's talent pool to support its global engineering services.
Tokyo Electron's President and CEO, Toshiki Kawai, highlighted the collaboration’s potential to drive innovation across multiple technology nodes and advance both front-end fabrication and back-end packaging technologies.
This deal aligns with India's efforts to build a robust semiconductor ecosystem, further boosting the country's position in the global tech industry.
