Sriram Krishnan Appointed as AI Policy Advisor
President-elect Donald J. Trump announced the appointment of Sriram Krishnan, an Indian-origin entrepreneur and former aide to Elon Musk, as the Senior Policy Advisor for Artificial Intelligence at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump highlighted Krishnan's role in ensuring continued American leadership in AI, stating that he will help shape and coordinate AI policy across the government, including collaboration with the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology.
Krishnan, who hails from Chennai, India, began his career as a founding member of Windows Azure at Microsoft. He will work closely with David Sacks, another prominent figure in technology and policy, to advance the U.S. position in AI development.
Expressing his gratitude for the opportunity, Krishnan remarked, “I'm honored to be able to serve our country and ensure continued American leadership in AI, working closely with David Sacks. Thank you, @realDonaldTrump, for this opportunity”, in a post on X.
Born to a middle-income Tamil family, Krishnan's passion for technology ignited in the late 1990s when he taught himself coding without internet access. He pursued a degree in Information Technology at SRM Engineering College, Anna University, graduating in 2005.
With an illustrious career spanning major tech companies like Microsoft, Facebook, Twitter, and Snap, Krishnan has made significant contributions to the industry. At Facebook, he developed the Facebook Audience Network, a key competitor to Google’s ad technologies. At Twitter, he spearheaded major product innovations that resulted in substantial user growth. In 2021, he joined Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) as a general partner, focusing on investments in emerging technologies such as Web3 and AI.
Krishnan gained further recognition in 2022 for his work with Musk during Twitter's transformation post-acquisition. His insights into AI and social media trends have established him as a thought leader in the field.
In addition to his professional achievements, Krishnan co-hosts 'The Aarthi and Sriram Show' with his wife, Aarthi Ramamurthy. The podcast, featuring high-profile guests like Musk and Mark Zuckerberg, has gained millions of downloads, solidifying the couple's status as a 'tech power duo'. They currently reside in London.
