Ro Khanna an Indian-American to Join Bidens Top Committee on Biotech

The 12-member National Security Commission on Emerging Biotechnology, established as per the National Defense Authorization Act 2022, appointed Indian-American Ro Khanna to the Us National Security Commission on Emerging Biotechnology

FREMONT CA:Congressman Ro Khanna, an Indian-American, was appointed to the National Security Commission on Emerging Biotechnology on Thursday. The National Security Commission on Emerging Biotechnology, established by the National Defense Authorization Act 2022, will conduct a thorough review of how advances in emerging biotechnology and related technologies will shape the Department of Defense's current and future activities.

 He is expected to provide an interim report to the President of the United States and the Armed Services Committees within a year and a final unclassified report to the President and the committees within two years, including recommendations for action by Congress and the federal government.

The announcement was made by the bipartisan leadership of the House and Senate Armed Services Committees, Congressman Adam Smith and Mike Rogers, Chairman and Ranking Member of the House Armed Services Committees, and Senators Jack Reed and Jim Inhofe, Chairman and Ranking Member of the Senate Armed Services Committees, respectively. Adam Smith appointed Congressman Ro Khanna to the committee, as stated in a press release.

Mr. Khanna is in his third term representing California's 17th Congressional District, located in the heart of Silicon Valley. He is a member of the House Armed Services, Agriculture, and Oversight and Reform committees, where he chairs the Environment Subcommittee.

Rep. Khanna is also the Democratic Vice-Chair of the House Caucus on India and Indian-Americans, as well as the Deputy Whip of the Congressional Progressive Caucus and an Assistant Whip for the Democratic Caucus. According to a press release, Mr. Khanna is committed to representing the people and ideas based in Silicon Valley to the nation and throughout the world.

Senator Alex Padilla, the first Latino to represent California in the US Senate; Dov S Zakheim, Senior Advisor at the Center for Strategic and International Studies and Senior Fellow at the CNA Corporation; Senator Todd Young are among the other members of the commission.
