Rajeev Chandrasekhar Pledges to Revamp Healthcare in Thiruvananthapuram
Rajeev Chandrasekhar, the candidate representing the NDA for the Lok Sabha seat in Thiruvananthapuram, participated in discussions with prominent local medical professionals, pledging to overhaul the healthcare system. His opponents in the electoral race include incumbent Congress MP Shashi Tharoor and CPI veteran Pannyan Raveendran.
Chandrasekhar acknowledged the urgent need for modernization in healthcare, criticizing the current state of facilities in the capital city, which he described as reminiscent of standards from thirty years ago. He emphasized that these facilities are ill-equipped to tackle modern health challenges. Chandrasekhar also highlighted the evolving nature of healthcare issues, citing emerging concerns like early-age cardiac arrests and the heightened prevalence of diabetes following the COVID-19 pandemic.
In addition, Chandrasekhar underscored the potential of health tourism as a rapidly expanding sector, expressing confidence in Thiruvananthapuram's ability to seize this opportunity. He reiterated the collaborative nature of executing the Ayushman Bharat scheme, emphasizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's viewpoint that state governments play a pivotal role in its implementation. Chandrasekhar acknowledged the financial hurdles faced at the state level.
With Kerala scheduled to hold elections on April 26 to elect 20 Lok Sabha members, Chandrasekhar's campaign prioritizes the need for a comprehensive revamp of healthcare infrastructure. He aims to align the healthcare system with contemporary demands, promising a more responsive setup in Thiruvananthapuram.
Chandrasekhar's focus on healthcare reform, acknowledgement of evolving challenges, and recognition of collaborative efforts between the Centre and state government exemplify his vision for improving healthcare in Thiruvananthapuram.
