OpenAI has appointed Raghav Gupta, ex-Managing Director at Coursera, as the Head of Education for India and the Asia Pacific region. Gupta, who led Coursera’s India and APAC operations for eight years, will now lead OpenAI’s educational initiatives in the region from its New Delhi office.

The announcement was made during the OpenAI Education Summit held in New Delhi, where OpenAI’s Vice President, Leah Belsky confirmed Gupta’s appointment. His role will involve working closely with local teams to shape how AI is used in education across India and neighboring countries.

Alongside this, OpenAI has introduced the Learning Accelerator, a new program designed specifically for India. The initiative will train teachers to effectively use AI tools in the classroom, making education more accessible and impactful. This marks the company’s first educator focused program introduced in any country.

The move is part of OpenAI’s broader strategy to grow its presence in India, one of its fastest growing international markets. The company recently announced plans to open an office in New Delhi and has started hiring locally. Currently, Pragya Misra leads public policy and partnerships in India.
