Qualcomm Launches Chip Design Center and 6G Research in India
Qualcomm, a leading chip-maker, unveiled its new chip design center in Chennai, signaling a significant investment of Rs 177.27 crore. This state-of-the-art facility will specialize in wireless connectivity solutions, focusing on innovations complementing Wi-Fi technologies. Anticipated to generate employment for up to 1,600 skilled technology professionals, the center aligns with India's 'Make in India' initiative, bolstering the indigenous semiconductor design ecosystem.
Moreover, in line with the government's Bharat 6G Vision, Qualcomm announced a program to support 6G University Research in India, demonstrating its commitment to advancing cutting-edge technologies within the country. The inauguration ceremony witnessed the participation of Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister for Communications, Electronics & Information Technology, who emphasized India's ascent as a global innovation hub and its commitment to digital progress.
Minister Vaishnaw lauded Qualcomm's role in accelerating India's digital journey and expressed a joint aim to connect millions through 5G connectivity. The center's establishment represents a significant milestone, not only for Qualcomm but also for nurturing India's tech talent and fostering employment opportunities in the sector.
Furthermore, the Chennai center will actively contribute to Qualcomm's global Research and Development efforts, particularly in 5G Cellular technology. Rahul Patel, Group General Manager of Connectivity, Broadband & Networking at Qualcomm Technologies, highlighted the center's pivotal role in shaping global connectivity, especially within India.
