Politics, Not Women's Cup of Tea?
James Curran, a Professor at Media Research Centre at Goldsmiths, University of London, one of the project’s 15 researchers said “The fact that throughout the whole world women know less about politics than men and that this is as true for people in Norway as it is in Colombia is really very surprising,” reported The Independent.
Professor Curran also stated that the gender gap in obtaining political information tend to be much higher in the most ‘advanced’ nations of the world like the United Kingdom and United States than in less developed nations such as Colombia.
In all 10 nations studied, women got very less scores than their male counterparts when questioned about the news on current affairs.
Women are least aware of the ongoing news and the current events as the media are strongly one sided towards men sources only. So, the women are seen less in news content and only 30 percent of television news interview women.
