Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the world's tallest rail bridge on the Chenab River in Jammu & Kashmir today, a historic moment in Indian engineering and infrastructure. The Chenab Bridge, at 359 meters (1,178 feet) tall over the riverbed  higher than the Eiffel Tower  is a critical part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla railway link project for improved connectivity to the Kashmir Valley.

Designed by Indian Railways and built by Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd. in association with other agencies, the steel arch bridge has a length of 1.3 km and is capable of withstanding high winds, earthquake, and temperatures. The bridge employs an innovative arch design to minimize wind resistance and has been constructed with state-of-the-art safety measures, including automated monitoring system.

The project represents a significant technological achievement, particularly in an area plagued by challenging terrain and climate. Authorities state it will not only enhance transport efficiency and security for people and commodities but also assist in incorporating far-flung areas into the national mainstream, boosting economic and social development.

Today’s inauguration is part of PM Modi’s visit to the Union Territory, where he is expected to launch several infrastructure and development projects. The bridge is poised to become a vital link and a proud emblem of India's engineering prowess on the global stage.
