PM Modi to Launch Chenab Bridge, the World?s Highest Rail Marvel, on June 6
  • World’s highest railway bridge at 359 meters, taller than the Eiffel Tower.
  • First-ever rail connectivity between Kashmir Valley and the rest of India.
  • Engineered to withstand extreme winds and seismic activity in fault zones.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will on June 6 inaugurate the Chenab Bridge, a monumental milestone in India's railway history. The event was announced by Dr. Jitendra Singh, Union Minister for the Department of Space. The occasion will mark the opening of the world's tallest railway arch bridge, which is part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Railway Link (USBRL) project in Jammu and Kashmir.

Tower in Reasi district, Chenab Bridge stands at an incredible 359 meters above the riverbed level, beating even the Eiffel Tower. It creates a crucial link in the Katra-to-Sangaldan section, bringing Kashmir Valley at last onto the national railway network and New Delhi.

Built using 30,000 metric tons of steel, the bridge has been made to withstand winds of up to 250 km/h and survive seismic action in one of India's most seismically active areas. The project stretches 272 kilometers and involves 36 tunnels and close to 1,000 bridges a task that took years of masterful engineering in harsh weather and geography.

The bridge does more than symbolize India's technical competence; it symbolizes its pledge to inclusive growth. Infrastructure surrounding the bridge, comprising 200 kilometers of newly constructed roads, has greatly eased access for far-flung villages, changing lives in long-cutoff areas.

Seniors say the bridge and supporting infrastructure employ high-tech electric engines, cutting-edge Overhead Equipment (OHE) systems, and real-time surveillance for tunnel and track monitoring delivering safety, efficiency, and resilience.
