PepsiCo India has unveiled plans for a significant investment of Rs 1,266 crore to establish a flavor manufacturing facility in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, as part of its expansive initiatives in the country. The upcoming plant, sprawling across 22 acres, is poised to become a pivotal hub for PepsiCo's beverage production in India. In addition to bolstering production, the venture is anticipated to foster employment opportunities and impart positive economic impacts on the local community.
According to PepsiCo's announcement, construction of the facility is slated to commence in 2024, with operations expected to commence by the first quarter of 2026. The company's CEO for India & South Asia, Jagrut Kotecha, expressed gratitude for the support from the Madhya Pradesh government, highlighting their joint efforts to fortify PepsiCo's presence while advancing socio-economic development in the region.
George Kovoor, PepsiCo India's Senior Vice President for Beverages, underscored the strategic significance of the new facility, which will serve as the company's second flavor manufacturing unit in the country. Kovoor emphasized the objective of escalating beverage production to meet the escalating demand, reaffirming PepsiCo's commitment to delivering top-quality products while championing sustainable practices.
Notably, PepsiCo India aims to align the operations of the new manufacturing facility with its global sustainability objectives. The plant will operate entirely on renewable energy sources, with an estimated reduction in carbon footprint by an impressive 1.9 metric tonnes per day. Additionally, employing zero liquid discharge technology, the facility targets a remarkable 90% overall water efficiency, underscoring responsible water resource management. Furthermore, PepsiCo pledges to replenish 100% of the water utilized at the facility, ensuring a sustainable approach to water consumption.
This expansion initiative not only signifies PepsiCo's dedication to meeting the evolving needs of Indian consumers but also underscores its commitment to environmental stewardship and corporate responsibility. As PepsiCo continues to expand its footprint in India, the investment in the Ujjain facility embodies the company's vision for sustainable growth and positive societal impact.
