'Operation Smile':190 Children Rescued From Trafficking In Bengaluru
BENGALURU: ‘Operation Smile’ is probably the biggest operation conducted against begging by minors. On Thursday morning that is August 6th, 2015, the police of Bengaluru conducted raids across the city at the same time, reports Bangalore Mirror.
It started out at 10 a.m. in the morning with seven divisions of Bengaluru Police along with members from Women and Child Welfare department, Child Welfare Committee, doctors from various hospitals and 10 NGOs.
In the major operation that was conducted 190 children were rescued including 25 infants by evening ; the police have arrested around 65 women and 8 men who were forcing the children to beg.
Home Minister K J George passed strict instructions to the officials to save to infants and juveniles from all types of begging.
And by late evening the numbers increased to 284 persons of which 190 were children from all the seven divisions of which the north division reported the highest in number.
All those people who put the children to begging, the agents or brokers were to be booked under the Juvenile Justice Act, The Karnataka Prohibition of Beggary Act, and section 363 of the IPC as to their involvement.
