Now Become an Engineer without Going to College

Bangalore: Soon students will be able to attain an engineering degree or earn an MBA sitting at home, with the help of distance education.

The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), the apex body for professional courses will soon allow colleges to offer engineering and MBA using distance learning, toppling the strong stand that has been maintained for years, reported Hemali Chhapia for TNN. Earlier the council had said that professional courses like engineering demanded intensive practical training and an MBA programme must have several hours of classroom discussions and debates as aspiring managers must understand that a business has many possibilities of uncertainties.

However, the AICTE's second thoughts will not only enhance the number of professionals in the country, but will also prove to be beneficial as the fees will be much lesser than what students pay to attend college. Also, at the end of the course each aspirant will have to sit for an exit or a licentiate examination, called the National Eligibility Test.

A student must have finished a degree or a diploma in the classroom form and received a minimum of five years of work experience before they can take up a professional course by way of the distance learning.
