Mysuru is India's Cleanest City, Varanasi Among Dirtiest

The analysis shows major improvement from Vishakapatnam, Surat, Rajkot and Gujarat while pushing down Navi Mumbai, Chennai, Pune and Nashik, in comparison to the 2014 held survey..The survey also revealed the list of dirtiest cities in the country, in which Dhanbad toppled the chart.. The other dirtiest cities include Kalyan Dombivilli in Maharashtra, Jamshedpur in Jharkhand, Ghaziabad in UP, Raipur in Chattisgarh, Meerut in UP, Patna in Bihar, Itanagar in Arunachal Pradesh and Asansol in West Bengal. Tirichirapalli has been awarded as the best behavioral change city as per the survey. But, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s led constituency has not performed well in Swach Sarvekshan mission as the city of Varanasi in UP features in list of dirtiest city in the country.

The surveys would help in increasing awareness about the programme. "It would now be made an annual feature” said M Venkaiah Naidu, Urban Development Minister. The minister also announced that by end of this year, 400 cities would be open defecation free.
