Mumbai, the Second Dangerous City for Children

Mumbai

Bangalore: Childhood is often termed as the ‘Golden Era’ in the life of any kid, where they live their life to the fullest filled with innocence, freedom and enjoyment, without any rules and regulation. But it is doubtful whether all kids really spent their childhood as they are meant to be. In the recent years we have come across many reports on crime against children across different parts of India, as reported by Puja Changoiwala of Hindustan Times.

Mumbai, the so called commercial and entertainment capital of the country, is one such city from where many incidents of crimes against children are reported. It is now ranked 2nd after Bangalore according to figures from the (NCRB) National Crime Records Bureau of India, contributing 5.5 percent to the country’s figure.

The horrific rape and murder of a nine year old girl in Worli has once again proved Mumbai to be an unsafe place for children.

Criminal lawyer, Majeed Memon said, “The rise in crime against women and children is a matter of serious concern. It suggests that offenders are not scared of law,” reported Hindustan Times.

Previous year, 517 cases were registered in Mumbai where victims were children. Rape, murder, infanticide, kidnapping and abduction, forcing children into prostitution, child marriage, are cases were children are often the victims of.

Mumbai also bagged the second position in the list of murders and rapes committed in the country.

In the crime against children, last year this city was at 4th rank with 3,456 cases and a total of 917 cases of rape and 201 cases of murder were reported.
