Mumbai: City of Dreams or City Of Burglars?
Bangalore: Crime has taken different forms taking note of drug trafficking, money laundering, fraud, extortion, murder for hire and so on. At a time when crime rate is increasing like an epidemic, stealing of property and valuables is widespread in India. For instance, between the year 2010 and 2012, people in Maharashtra have witnessed the highest losses due to stealing of property and valuables worth around
18,682 through dacoity, burglary, theft, cheating, robbery, criminal breach of trust and other related offences, reports V Narayan of TNN.
In India, location has a significant impact on crime. A report published by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) compared the stolen rates occurred in major Indian cities. The report noted that Mumbai have lost
9818 crore in the last three years among cities. Ominously, the value of stoen goods increased almost eight times than earlier.
Maharashtra followed by Delhi suffered a loss of
2,605 crore, Gujarat seen a loss of
2,204 crore, West Bengal
1,822 crore, Kerala
1,810 crore, Madhya Pradesh
1,138 crore, Karnataka
682 crore, Andhra Pradesh
607 crore, Goa
578 crore and Uttar Pradesh suffered a loss of about
564 crore. However, the country has recovered only
4452 crore of total
33,923 crore between 2010 and 2012.
The report noted that stealing increased over time. The total value of stolen property in 2012 was
21,071 crore compared to
6,585 crore and
6,266 crore in 2011 and 2010, respectively.
