In a major push towards inclusive and accessible governance, the Ministry of Panchayati Raj (MoPR) is set to sign a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bhashini the National Language Translation Mission under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). The MoU will be formalized on June 19, 2025, at the Constitution Club of India Annexe, New Delhi.
The event will be graced by Union Minister of State for Panchayati Raj and Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Prof. S.P. Singh Baghel. Key dignitaries including Shri Vivek Bharadwaj, Secretary, MoPR, and Shri S. Krishnan, Secretary, MeitY, along with other senior officials, will be present to mark this milestone.
This strategic collaboration aims to deploy cutting-edge AI-powered language technologies to enhance multilingual access across MoPR’s digital platforms. By integrating Bhashini with initiatives like eGramSwaraj, the Ministry intends to bridge the language barrier in rural governance, enabling elected representatives, Panchayati Raj functionaries, and citizens to engage with planning and governance systems in their native languages.
The MoU is poised to accelerate participatory democracy by fostering broader community involvement through real-time translation and AI-based language tools. A specially curated digital video will also be unveiled during the event to showcase the integration of Bhashini with MoPR’s e-governance platform.
This initiative marks a significant step toward democratizing information access and empowering Panchayati Raj Institutions through robust, AI-driven digital infrastructure.
