Parliament's Monsoon Session commences today, July 21, and is expected to unfold in a tense political climate as the Opposition INDIA alliance prepares to challenge the Narendra Modi government on several critical national issues.
This marks the first session of Parliament after Operation Sindoor India's precision strikes on terror camps in Pakistan following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives, mostly tourists in Jammu and Kashmir.
The session will continue until August 21, featuring 21 sittings over 32 days. Both Houses will be adjourned on August 12 and resume on August 18 to facilitate Independence Day celebrations.
Government Set to Place 15 Important Bills
Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju stated on Sunday that 17 agenda items, including 15 key legislative bills, have been identified for deliberation. He added that the government is open to debating all topics, including Operation Sindoor, provided discussions follow Parliamentary procedures and rules.
Opposition Demands PM’s Clarification
The Opposition has demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi make a statement in the House regarding Operation Sindoor and respond to former US President Donald Trump’s claims about mediating peace between India and Pakistan. They also want a discussion on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar.
However, Rijiju emphasized that the final decision on discussion topics rests with the Business Advisory Committees of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.
