Modi Hopes For A Fruitful Monsoon Session

NEW DELHI: The Modi government today walked into a storm of sorts as the Parliament convened for the Monsoon Session. The Congress-led Opposition has disrupted the House proceeding twice in the Rajya Sabha, forcing it to be adjourned for the day. The Lok Sabha also was adjourned for the day.

The government today made it clear that it is ready for a discussion on Sushma Swaraj’s alleged assistance for Lalit Modi in securing travel documents to out of London, but maintained that other issues linked to chief ministers of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh cannot be taken up in Parliament as they are state issues

At the all-party meeting yesterday, the Congress demanded for the resignations of Sushma Swaraj, Vasundhara Raje and Shivraj Singh Chouhan. The BJP rejected the demand and appears to be unfazed as they prepare to turn the tables on Congress by painting Rahul Gandhi as the target.

A total of 11 bills are expected to be introduced in the Parliament for discussion during the Monsoon Session. The controversial land bill that has faced fierce opposition from members of the House is likely to be among them. If the government failed to introduce the land bill in this session, they are likely to take the ordinance route once again.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressing the media said that he hopes the Monsoon Session of Parliament will be fruitful and all MPs will contribute towards making good decisions
