What are DNA Portraits
DNA portraits are a unique form of art. They are designed to be made just for you, and no two prints of two different persons can ever be the same. Whenever you place an order for your DNA art, DNA 11 sends you a kit to collect your DNA sample.
It is a simple, painless process, you just need to swab inside your cheek, and they will have all that they need to create your DNA portrait. Then you will have a variety of options kept before you. You can choose the style, size, color, and frame from a list of possibilities that has no limit.
What’s Inside the DNA Portrait Kit?
The DNA collection kit comes in an elegant metal gift box. It contains a cheek swab kit to collect your DNA. You also get color sample swatches to choose the color for your portrait and an easy-to-follow instruction manual. After you have collected your DNA sample, you can send it back to them in an envelope given in the kit.
How a DNA Art is Created
You don’t have to freeze while smiling for the portrait; you don’t have to pose for long hours anymore. All you need to do is collect just a few millions of your cells (there is nothing to panic, your body has more than 37 trillion) from your cheek, painlessly, using the swab provided, and leave it on an FTA card provided in the DNA collection kit. The card is specially designed. It contains a chemical that releases the DNA from the swab and then traps it in the card and stabilizes it for storage.
After you send your DNA sample to DNA11, they send it to their labs with a barcode to maintain privacy. The lab technicians then analyze the DNA for unusual genome sequences (the thing that makes your portrait unique). Then they put it through a polymerase chain reaction to replicate your DNA. As a result of the process, pieces of DNA of different sizes are formed, which makes your unique portrait. It is a biological visual created using digital methods.
After this, the DNA is loaded into a gel. Then they run a mild current through the gel (a process called gel electrophoresis) that separates your DNA by size. As a result, larger strands of your DNA move towards the top of the gel, and the smaller ones move to the bottom.
Then they stain the DNA and place it on an ultraviolet box. This illuminates the DNA, and a digital camera then captures the image.
After that comes the designing process. When you place an order for the portrait, you can customize your DNA art with an infinite range of possibilities. After the image of your DNA is captured, it is taken to the designers. They adjust the portrait to meet your choices of color, size, and saturation.
One cool thing when it comes to customization is that you can choose what kind of frame you want for your portrait and its thickness. You can spend a few bucks to add a premium quality wooden frame. You can also add your signature if you spend a few extra bucks. A special card will be enclosed in the DNA collection kit where you can place your signature. They will add it to the lower right corner of the portrait. You can also receive a digital copy of your portrait that you can use as your wallpaper or for various other purposes.
After the final design is created, the portrait is printed onto a poly-cotton canvas using ink that can resist any fading from sunlight. Then they apply a protective coating as a final touch to make it scratch resistant.
