Manav Shah bags PGS Tour Latin America

American golfer of Indian descent Manav Shah achieved his breakthrough win at the Quito Open

FREMONT, CA: Manav Shah, an Indian-American golfer, won the Quito Open on the PGA TOUR Latinoamérica for the first time. Shah, born in the United States after his parents relocated from Mumbai, won by two strokes over Joel Thelen and Mitchell Meissner. Shah was in the lead after the first round with a 63 but dropped in the second and could not finish the third due to weather. He needed to complete the final six holes of his third round, and he shot 4-under 68. A few hours later, he started his final round and shot a 66 to win by two strokes. Shah shot a bogey-free 66 to break away from a crowded leader board late in the round. Shah ranks eighth on the PGA Latinoamerica Tour's 'Totalplay Cup Points List.'

With four events left in the season, he's in good shape to make a run at the top five. The top five players on the List win a spot on Korn Ferry, which leads to PGA Tour eligibility. On a personal level, Shah, a UCLA graduate, travels to Mumbai to see his family, particularly his maternal grandmother. Akshay Bhatia, a southpaw, won the Bahamas Great Exuma Classic on the Korn Ferry Tour at Sandals Emerald Bay. Bhatia became the third-youngest player (19 years and 11 months) to win a Korn Ferry Tour event since the Tour's inception in 1990 with the victory.

The PGA Tour Latinoamérica (PGA Tour Latinoamérica) is a third-level professional golf tour founded in 2012 and is run by the PGA Tour. It was founded alongside the now-defunct Tour de las Américas. Executives from the Tour de las Américas joined the new tour as staff. The PGA Tour Latinoamérica will be in its ninth season in 2022, with the PGA Tour Latinoamérica serving as the main men's professional golf tour in Latin America.
