Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India's automobile industry was reflective of the nation's aspirations and its readiness for tomorrow when inaugurating the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025. The event, held at Bharat Mandapam, also paid tribute to industry stalwarts Ratan Tata and Osamu Suzuki, who passed away in 2024.
"India's automotive sector is growing rapidly, with an annual growth of 12% last year", Modi said. "Aligned with the 'Make in India' and 'Make for the World' initiatives, exports are thriving. Selling 2.5 crore cars annually demonstrates the burgeoning demand in India", he added.
Modi said, "These two visionaries played significant roles in making India's automobile sector and delivering the dreams of its middle-class. Their legacies will go on to continue inspiring India's mobility sector in the years ahead".
India, the fifth-largest global economy, is the world's third-largest passenger vehicle market. As India transitions among the top three economies, auto markets will take new heights,Modi said during the event as he cited several factors such as a young population, an expansive middle class, urbanization, and modern infrastructure as key drivers.
Speaking about the past challenges in infrastructure, Modi said, "Earlier, poor road conditions prevented people from owning cars. Today, India is focusing on ease of travel with extensive multi-lane highways, expressways, and multi-modal connectivity under PM Gati Shakti. Last year alone, more than Rs 11 lakh crore was invested in infrastructure development".
The Prime Minister was quick to note that the schemes based on the concept of Production Linked Incentive have showcased success in the auto sector by creating 1.5 lakh direct jobs and generating sales of Rs 2.25 lakh crore.
The Prime Minister released his vision for India's mobility future through the 'Seven Cs' – common, connected, convenient, congestion-free, charged, clean, and cutting-edge. He reinforced India's commitment to green mobility and emphasized the importance of electric vehicles, hydrogen fuel, and biofuels.
The Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, to be held from 17 to 22 January in three venues at Bharat Mandapam and Yashobhoomi in New Delhi and the India Expo Center & Mart in Greater Noida has industry leaders as well as policy makers.
