BENGALURU: The Kohinoor famously known as the devil’s diamond has attracted Indian and foreign attention for quite a long time now. This 106 carat diamond was stolen and also cursed, is considered as the most precious gem in the world. A part of Indian legacy now rest in Britain’s royal crown.
According to the reports by Newsnation, on July 28there was this controversy that the diamond supposedly will be returned to India when Prime Minister Modi visits UK in November. This was raked by the UK Lawmaker Keith Vaz.
His comments came in response to Congress MP Shashi Tharoor's recent stirring speech at the Oxford Union, which called for Britain to pay reparations for its brutal colonial rule in India for 200 years.
"I welcome Dr Tharoor's speech and the endorsement of its message by Prime Minister Modi. I share their views. These are genuine grievances which must be addressed. Pursuing monetary reparations is complex, time consuming and potentially fruitless, but there is no excuse for not returning precious items such as the Kohinoor diamond, a campaign I have backed for many years," said Keith Vaz, British MP.
Prime Minister Cameron has gone out of the way to maintain the bilateral relationship with India because of the due visit of Prime Minister Modi in the United Kingdom this November.
