Key Highlights of PM's Inaugural Speech on 76th Independence Day

India is all decked up to celebrate its 76th Independence Day on August 15, the day which marked the end of British rule after two centuries. On Monday (August 15, 2022), Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the Independence Day celebrations from the iconic Red Fort in the national capital. Prime Minister Narendra Modi hoisted the national flag at the ramparts of Red Fort and addressed the nation for the ninth consecutive time. The prime minister addressed the nation for about 82 minutes. The speech began at around 7:34 AM and concluded at around 8:56 AM. Prime Minister Narendra Modi called upon the collective spirit of 130 crores, the “Team India,” to take the country forward and ensure it is a developed nation in the next 25 years. He highlighted that corruption and dynastic politics were the two biggest challenges in India.

PM Modi laid down five resolves, or the “panch pran” for the ‘amrit kaal’: To work towards a ‘viksit Bharat‘ (developed India), remove any vestiges of colonialism, retain our roots, ensure unity in diversity, and carry out a citizen’s duties. PM Modi stated that it was a historic day for India as it took a new path with a new resolve. He emphasized that India's strength lies in its diversity, calling it the "mother of democracy." India is the mother of democracy, and we have seen a lot of ups and downs in the last 75 years. He said, "There have been sorrows as well as achievements in these years. We faced natural calamities, wars and other problems. But unity in diversity became our guiding power." Ahead of his speech at the Red Fort, PM Modi unfurled the National Flag amid a 21-gun salute by the indigenously developed howitzer gun, ATAGS. A shower of flower petals followed this by helicopters. Earlier in the day, PM Modi visited Rajghat to pay his respects.

World looks at India with pride

The way the world views India is changing. The world today looks at India with pride, hope, and as a problem solver. The world looks at India as a destination where aspirations we meet.

Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan, Jai Vigyaan, Jai Anusandhan

"Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan" - PM Modi also invoked a phrase from former PM Lal Bahadur Shastri in his speech at the red fort. Later, Jai Vigyaan was added to this slogan by the then PM Atal Behari Vajpayee.

PM Modi spoke from the Red Fort, "there is currently an additional requirement to add: "Jai Anusandhan" (research and innovation). Greetings to Jawan, Kisan, Vigyan, and Anusandhan.

Har Ghar Tiranga

Har Ghar Tiranga' is an example of an entire nation coming together to celebrate the spirit of our glorious country. Many experts could not have imagined the nation's enthusiasm for 'Tiranga' seen in the last three days, symbolizing the nation's reawakening.

Corruption and nepotism

PM Modi said that India faced two big problems corruption and nepotism. He said that these two were the most significant challenges faced by India on the path to achieving its goals. "Corruption is hollowing the country like a termite; we must fight it. We have to raise awareness against 'Parivaarwaad' to realise the strength of our institutions, to take the country forward on the basis of merit," he said.

Aatmanirbhar Bharat

Since he introduced the term, PM Modi and his government has been actively pushing the concept of self-reliance or 'Aatmanirbharta.' He says it must carry out as "Jan Andolan" or people's movement. He applauded the forces for moving forward with this plan. "For the ceremonial gun salute from Red Fort, a gun produced in India was employed for the first time in 75 years. In the manufacturing sector, India is breaking new ground. Children who reject imported toys deserve our admiration; when a 5-year-old says "no videshi," Aatmanirbhar Bharat pumps through his veins."

Youth for a developed India

PM invoked youth for the golden developmental period of India. He said when India is celebrating 100 years of Independence, the child will be over 50, and these are the golden years of their youth, and they will be the ones at the forefront of developing India.

He called for India to become a developed country in all aspects.

Environmental Conservation

PM Modi said India's roots, heritage, and culture have the solution to the world's environmental problems. "Today the world is facing the problem with the environment, conserving it. We have a way to solve the problems of global warming. For this, we have the heritage which our ancestors have given us," as per PM Modi's speech.

Pledge to respect women

One of the most critical aspects of PM Modi's speech was when he gave a powerful message to respect women. "We as a country have developed a fault, we have been disrespecting women through our conversations, behaviour, some words, and actions. Can we take a pledge to free ourselves from disrespecting women by our nature, ethics, and in daily life. Women are going to be a huge asset in fulfilling the nation's dreams. I can see this capability."
