Jalandhar to Host New Sports Technology Extension Centre
- Government approves a Sports Technology Extension Centre in Jalandhar.

The Union Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME) has approved the establishment of a Sports Technology Extension Centre in Jalandhar, Punjab, announced Industries Minister Sanjeev Arora. The new centre aims to provide support services to MSMEs, especially those engaged in sports goods and related manufacturing.
The extension centre will offer advanced product and process development, technology transfer, testing facilities, skill development programs, and handholding support to help small units scale their operations and enhance competitiveness.
According to Arora, on Dec 18, the ministry issued official communication through Principal Director Aditya Prakash Sharma, requesting the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) and execution of the lease deed at the Government Institute of Leather and Footwear Technology (GILFT) in Jalandhar.

The approval comes under the Hub & Spoke Model, with the new Technology Extension Centre to be mentored by the Product & Process Development Centre (PPDC) in Meerut. The MoU is scheduled to be signed on Jan 5, 2026. A total built-up area of 11,166 square feet across the ground, first, and second floors of the GILFT building has already been earmarked for the facility.
This initiative is expected to boost innovation, skill development, and technology adoption among MSMEs in Punjab’s sports manufacturing sector, further strengthening the region’s role in India’s sports goods industry.
