ISRO's 16 Hour Prior Warning Would Have Changed Uttarakhand's Destiny

Bangalore: More than three weeks after the most disastrous natural calamity hit the hill town of Uttarakhand, blame game started brewing among most of the high authorities.  People wonder if the government or the concerned people took the given timely warning by the country's premier scientific body ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation) seriously, then the situation would have been averted and would be within control, reported Headlines Today.

Unfortunately neither the Uttarakhand government nor the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) alerted upon the warning, instead ignored it as a mere weather forecast or just the weatherman's fancy.

It has come to light that even on that unfateful day of 16th June, an alarm was sent out prior 16 hours of the monsoon outbreak by ISRO's Mosdac (Meteorological and Oceanographic Satellite Data Archival Centre) which is a facility build up to promote the exchange of satellite data.

According to Yashpal Arya, Uttarakhand Disaster Management Minister, despite the warning given, the authorities were left with little means to save all the people as lakhs of them were scattered everywhere.

“We had prior information. But there was no visible indication of crisis of this magnitude,” the Minister added.

In the map issued by the Mosdac, it clearly shows 11 areas in Uttarakhand with severe rains and cloud burst. Since no one took the issue seriously, it cost the lives of many people, reports Headlines Today.

It is high time that all the concerned authorities restore this hill town and its affected people to its originality rather than crying over the spilled milk.
