India's Wealthiest Political Parties



Shiv Sena:

Shiv Sena is the ninth richest political party with earnings of Rs 32.90 crore.

The party was founded by Bal Thackeray and is currently headed by Thackeray's son, Uddhav Thackeray. Even though the party's primary base is in Maharashtra, it has tried to expand to a pan-Indian base.

Janata Dal (United):

Janata Dal rounds off the tenth position on the list with earnings amounting to Rs 26.68 crore. Janata Dal is a party which was formed through the merger of Janata Party factions, the Lok Dal, Congress(S), and the Jan Morcha led by V. P. Singh on 11 October 1988.

Further, the think-tank said that even though donations formed a bulk of the income of the political parties, very few of them revealed the sources of donations. The political parties in the country earned more than Rs 4,500 crore from donation, voluntary contributions and other sources during the 2004-05 to 2010-11 period.
