Tarun Tejpal sex assault case: The news of sexual assault involving Tehelka founder Tarun Tejpal, has not just rocked the entire media fraternity but also the entire nation. Various sections of the society now feel the need for the imposition of more stringent laws against sexual harassment at workplace in India.
Tarun Tejpal, the face of Tehelka, a magazine famous for investigative reporting, has been accused of allegedly assaulting his younger colleague at a Tehelka conference in Goa last year. This incident forced him to step down temporarily from his position. The trial is yet to begin in this case, but given the kind questions raised by the defense, it is evident that the victim’s character is being called into question.
Phoolan Devi murder case: Indian bandit and politician who was known as the “Bandit Queen” became legendary for both her acts of revenge on those who had abused her and her daring efforts to aid the lower castes. After being imprisoned, however, she became a member of the Lok Sabha, the lower house of Parliament, where she continued as a champion of the poor and oppressed. During, her prime time in politics, she was shot dead by masked men right outside her Ashoka road bungalow in Delhi. Till date, the trial in the Bandit Queen turned politician’s murder case is not yet on the verge of completion.
