India's Big Blackout Affects Country's Image Globally

Bangalore: “The image of India looks very bad on the recent blackout which affected more than 21 states across India,” said Naresh Chandra, a former ambassador of the United States and former electricity regulator in New Delhi, reports NDTV. The massive failure of power transmission lines that affected more than 600 million people in 21 states across the country is the worst ever power collapse in world history and have caused huge embarrassment to India’s image.

The states hit by blackout were- Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Delhi and seven North Eastern States.

The collapse of all the three grids caused chaos across many states in Northern India, paralyzing transport networks. Transport networks came to a complete halt as city’s lifeline Delhi metro services came to a standstill and many trains were held up nationwide. Power supply for public service like hospitals was restored on a priority basis. Many miners in Jharkhand and West Bengal were trapped when electricity to the elevators were shut off.
