FREMONT, CA: Indian-American businessman and entrepreneur Sunil Puri was recently appointed as a member of the President’s Advisory Committee (PACA) on the Arts by President Joe Biden. The committee was established under President Eisenhower in 1958, and its members serve as Kennedy Center representatives and ambassadors for the arts across the US.

Mumbai-born Sunil Puri is the founder and CEO of First Midwest Group (FMG), a national real estate firm actively engaged in the development of residential, commercial, and industrial areas. FMG was founded in 1984 and later expanded into the self-storage, hotel, restaurant, and gaming industry. According to the press release by the White House, Sunil has been active in venture capital and other private equity investments in the US, South America, Africa, and Asia for over 20 years. Sunil came to the country in 1979 as a long-standing advocate for social equity and immigration challenges and has previously served as the commissioner for former president Barack Obama on the White House Commission on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.

His family has also been active in philanthropic activities, mainly with the creation of Puri School of Business at Rockford University in 2014. According to his official bio, Sunil has helped his community progress into the 21st century by creating jobs, developing empty lands, and igniting community engagement. Back in 1979, when Puri came to the US, he had only USD 140 with him and a dream. Fast forward today, he continues to guide FMG into new heights of growth, opportunities, and success. Sunil Puri said that he was proud of what he has done and what FMG had achieved. Puri is also the founder of the Golden Apple Award and was on the board of the Rockford Area Economic Development Council.
