Indian-American Recognized in TIME 100 Most Influential People in AI 2024
TIME Magazine's TIME TIME 100 Most Influential People in AI 2024 features influential figures in AI, including Indian-American leaders like Sundar Pichai, Satya Nadella and Rohit Prasad and showcases their transformative contributions and leadership in the global technology space.
TIME Magazine has announced its prestigious list of the ‘TIME100 Most Influential People in AI 2024,’ featuring key individuals shaping the future of artificial intelligence. This year's list recognized several Indian-American innovators, leaders and influencers for their significant contributions to the field. Among those acknowledged are Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google (NASDAQ: GOOGL) and Alphabet and Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT). Both are noted for their visionary leadership in AI development. Rohit Prasad, senior vice president and head scientist of Artificial General Intelligence at Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN), is also featured for his pivotal role in advancing AI technology.
Additional Indian-American figures making the list include Aravind Srinivas, CEO of the AI “answer engine” Perplexity and Amandeep Singh Gill, the United Nations Secretary-General’s Envoy on Technology. Divya Siddharth, co-founder of the nonprofit Collective Intelligence Project, Anant Vijay Singh, product lead at Proton and Vinod Khosla, founder of Khosla Ventures, are also recognized. Dwarkesh Patel, host of the Dwarkesh Podcast, is included for his efforts in educating the public about AI.
This year's list reflects various contributors across companies, regions and perspectives. It highlighted the diverse range of individuals featured, from 15-year-old Francesca Mani, who advocates for protections against deep fakes in the US.
While the previous year saw the emergence of numerous startup labs like OpenAI and Anthropic, 2024 has witnessed the dominant influence of major tech giants. These large companies are crucial for providing the necessary funding and computing power, or “compute,” required for the rapid acceleration of AI technologies. The magazine also remarked on the rapid pace of change in the AI field.
In addition to Indian-American figures, TIME Magazine featured notable Indian personalities such as Indian Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and veteran Indian actor Anil Kapoor. Kapoor was recognized for winning a case in a New Delhi high court in September over unauthorized AI use of his likeness. This inclusion highlights the broad spectrum of influential figures impacting the AI landscape and related fields.
