Indian Lawmakers Who Are Infamous As Lawbreakers

Atiq Ahmed, a member of the 14th Lok Sabha from the Phulpur (Lok Sabha Constituency) in Uttar Pradesh is a criminal-turned-politician. Ahmed, who has 43 criminal cases against him, is Samajwadi party's choice for the Sultanpur Lok Sabha seat for the upcoming election. A former Lok Sabha MP, Ahmed was arrested in 2008 for his involvement in the murder of BSP MLA Raju Pal. This former MP is out on bail since February 2012.

Mohammad Shahabuddin, also known as ‘Robinhood’ for his good deeds is one of the India's most powerful criminal-politicians. He is possibly the most prominent criminal-politician in India today. Shahabuddin was four times Member of Parliament from Siwan, Bihar, with the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) party of Lalu Prasad Yadav, and 2-time MLA in the Bihar Vidhan Sabha (Legislative Assembly). At present, he is serving a life sentence for kidnapping with intent to murder. And because of this conviction, he was not permitted to contest in the 2009 general election. He is also under trial in over thirty criminal cases including eight of murder, twenty of attempted murder, as well as kidnapping, extortion, and more.
