Indian Drugs Users Now Opt For Synthetic Drugs


Bangalore: As the saying goes “Health is wealth”, likewise a nation where its masses are healthy will easily take its nation a leap forward when it comes to development in the various fields. Unfortunately, in a developing country like India many youngsters are into various kinds of drugs and one such form of drugs that are used increasingly are the synthetic drugs like cocaine, heroin, methaphetamine and mandrax, as per the latest data on drugs seizure by Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), reports Deeptiman Tiwary of TOI.

The data also states how such drugs are addictive and injurious to health than those natural drugs like cannabis and hashish. Indian States like Punjab, Maharashtra and in particular Mumbai, top the list in smuggling and consumption of synthetic drugs.

As per the analysis of data between the year 2009 and 2012, smuggling and consumption of cocaine and ephedrine (used to make methamphetamine) have increased by more than 250 percent and that of methaqualone (mandrax) by over 4,200 percent. During the same period, use of ganja and hashish came down by 64 percent and 23 percent respectively. Morphine too registered an increase of over 500 percent in the period. Among natural extracts, opium is the only drug that witnesses an increase of around 100 percent over the period.
