India Ontrack to Seal Victory Against Aids: UNAIDS Report


Bangalore: India, as a country usually performs not as good when it comes to basic healthcare factors but there’s one disease that the nation has been battling successfully and that is HIV/AIDS, says UNAIDS– the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV and AIDS Report-2013. As per the report, India has successfully managed to cut down its HIV count by a staggering 57percent while both Bangladesh and Sri Lanka saw an increase in HIV cases by 25 percent, reports Binod Dubey of Hindustan Times.

The country which was infamous for contributing the disease all over the world, have witnessed a reduction in HIV infection cases because of an increased level of awareness among masses and effective government initiatives and the timely recognizing the magnitude of the epidemic.

The report further said that, Pakistan has come across an eight-fold rise in the number of cases and there are more than double cases of new infections in Philippines.

Steven Kraus, UNAIDS director of the regional support team for Asia and the Pacific said,  “The pace of progress needs to be redoubled to sustain past achievements, drive results and meet global AIDS targets,” reports HT.
