India Continues to Retain Category-1 Status in the US FAA

The Indian Aviation Industry has marked an epitome of growth in ICAO, and thus, manages to retain US’ FAA Category-1 status in the aviation space.

India has emerged as the third-largest domestic aviation market globally, with a record air traffic of nearly 131 million passengers in 2016, including nearly 100 million domestic passengers. Overtaking the developed nations, Indian aviation has also contributed five percent of the gross domestic product (GDP), opening up to four million jobs in the arena.

The United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has managed to retain India’s Category 1 (Cat-1) status. The FAA has confirmed a critical retention of India’s CAT-1 status per the International Aviation Safety Assessment (IASA) program.

As per the determined IASA audit, a nation is generally assigned to one of the two ratings presumed. For instance, say a nation meets the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards, they are classified under Category 1, where FAA inspectors assess a country’s civil aviation authority and determine its licenses and overseas air carriers per the ICAO safety standards.

The CAT-1 status implies the operations and service capabilities of an airline to American cities and proceeding with code-sharing agreements with the US carriers. The Indian civil aviation minister, Jyotiraditya M Scindia has also responded to the ministry’s tweet, expressing elatedness about India’s rise by 16 percent in the ICAO global rating.

Following its jump in the ICAO global rating, the Indian civil aviation sector is progressing at the forefront, retaining a Category A status with the Federal Aviation Administration.
