India, South Korea to Boost Ties in Electronics and EV Supply Chains

India and South Korea are deepening their trade and technology ties by exploring joint initiatives in the fields of electronics manufacturing, electric vehicle (EV) parts, and digital supply chains. The move is aimed at building a more resilient and future ready economic partnership between the two nations.

The discussions took place between India’s Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Jitin Prasada, and South Korea’s Trade Minister, Yeo Han-Koo, on the sidelines of the G20 Trade and Investment Ministers’ Meeting in South Africa. Both leaders highlighted the importance of collaboration in new age industries such as semiconductors, electric mobility, and digital infrastructure.

The talks also focused on encouraging joint ventures, technology transfer, and innovation driven supply chain models to strengthen economic resilience. The initiative will allow both countries to expand their manufacturing capabilities and explore co-investment opportunities in high growth sectors.

India emphasized the need for a fair and effective global trading system and reiterated its call for restoring a fully functional dispute settlement mechanism at the World Trade Organization. The minister also underlined the importance of providing policy flexibility and adequate transition periods for developing economies like India.

This collaboration aligns with India's ongoing efforts to enhance its Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) with South Korea. The two countries are looking to integrate their strengths in advanced manufacturing, renewable energy, and technology driven trade, which could lead to a new phase of industrial and digital cooperation.
