IIMs have to act as multidisciplinary body: Sibal

Bangalore: At the 36th annual convocation of the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore, Kapil Sibal, Union HRD, Communications and IT Minister said that educational institutions like IIMs and other like-minded institutions have to provide solutions for complex problems that is faced by the country. He also said that the educational institutions play a vital role in the transformation that is taking place in society.
He said that educational institutions such as IIMs have to act as multidisciplinary bodies who will be a solution provider for ant sector be it the Government, the private and the agricultural sectors or SMEs. He said that the institutions behave as standalone institutions whose participation is more in the IT and banking sector.
Sibal said the way the Institution board was formed was also not right. He said that instead of a large 25-member board, IIMs can have more cohesive boards where all the members are active. He also said that the Chairman or Director of the Institution should be chosen by the majority vote of the members than government appointing one.
