Hyundai Motor Company has collaborated with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi to open the Hyundai Center of Excellence, a cutting-edge mobility research centre that will concentrate on electrification and battery technologies.
The strategic partnership, formalized during an agreement signing ceremony on Wednesday, marks a significant step in Hyundai’s long-term commitment to academic-industry collaboration. The center will spearhead cutting-edge research into future mobility technologies tailored to the evolving needs of the Indian market.
Hyundai Motor and Kia will invest a combined 5 billion won (about $3.5 million) over two years to fund the effort. The partnership will start with nine research projects that cover key areas including battery cells and systems, battery management systems (BMS), safety, durability, and diagnostic technologies.
The center will also explore advanced materials and components to further improve battery design, performance, and safety.
Yang Heui-won, President and Chief of Hyundai's R&D Division, and Prof. Rangan Banerjee, Director IIT Delhi, attended the event. "We are looking forward to collaborating with India's top brains in battery innovation", said Yang. "This alliance shows our focus on creating eco-friendly mobility solutions and contributing to Indian society and economy".
The Hyundai Center of Excellence is expected to be a catalyst for innovation in the Indian electric mobility space.
