Hyundai Motor India Reports Modest Sales Growth in FY25 Amid Market Challenges
Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) shares dipped 1 percent to Rs 1,685 in morning trade on April 2 after the auto giant posted total sales of 67,320 units in March 2025, up just 2.6 percent from the corresponding month last year. Domestic sales were 51,820 units, while 15,500 units were exported.
For FY25, Hyundai’s total sales reached 7,62,052 units, with 5,98,666 units sold in the domestic market and 1,63,386 units shipped overseas. The company remained the second-largest passenger vehicle maker in India and continued as Hyundai Motor Company’s key export hub.
SUVs accounted for 68.5 percent of Hyundai’s domestic sales in FY25. The CRETA remained a strong performer, with 52,898 units sold in Q4 FY25. The company also surpassed 2.5 million SUV sales and 1.5 million CRETA sales (domestic + exports) since launch.
"Consolidating our position further in India, Hyundai Motor India retained its reign as the second largest passenger vehicle OEM in FY 24-25 due to the unprecedented faith of our customers in the brand Hyundai", Tarun Garg, Chief Operating Officer said in a statement. "Our SUV portfolio became stronger during this financial year with the launch of Hyundai CRETA Electric - our first local EV as well as Hyundai Alcazar. India's favourite SUV, new Hyundai CRETA continues to gain popularity", he further added.
The firm posted a 3 percent year-to-year decrease in total sales with 58,727 units delivered in February 2025, from 60,501 units during the same period in the previous year. Domestic sales fell 5 percent to 47,727 units, from 50,201 units in February 2024. Exports increased to 11,000 units, up from 10,300 units last year.
Conversely, the firm registered a 19 percent drop in consolidated net profit during the October-December quarter of 2024, as earnings reduced to Rs 1,161 crore from Rs 1,425 crore during the same period a year ago. Overall income dropped to Rs 16,892 crore from Rs 17,244 crore during Q3 FY24, with revenue from operations reducing by 1.34 percent to Rs 16,648 crore. Hyundai had reasoned the decrease in margins as due to low demand and geopolitical concerns.
